Many people believe that too much fat in their diet is what is causing their body to produce cellulite. Since many obese people have cellulite that seems obvious. Right?

Well that is partially the cause but it is not the whole cause. It is true that when too much fat accumulates under the skin, the fat cells push the connective tissue and creates strain on the skin – thus causing the formation of cellulite ripples.

However, not all cells react the same way – therefore not all overweight people have cellulite. If the cells that make up your connective tissue are strong and vibrant they can withstand the bulging pressure of the fat cells underneath.

So the way to avoid getting cellulite is to help your connective tissue to be strong enough so it doesn’t bulge (ripple) even if fat deposits do accumulate.

How do we keep our connective tissue strong? We need to exercise. Even if you don’t do it to get rid of the fat, you should be doing regular exercise to firm up your muscles and your connective tissue.losing weight

If you are greatly overweight then you need to approach your exercise gradually, preferably under supervision. A quick change from inactivity to rigorous activity can be hard on your body. It needs time to adjust and repair.

Getting rid of unwanted fat is best done with a combination of healthy diet and exercise. To attempt to lose pounds by dieting alone does not make for a healthy body. You would  lose muscle – not fat. Your muscles and connective tissue need to be strong for you to be in good condition – and cellulite-free.

The prescription: eat healthy food and do a regular exercise routine at least three times a week.
